USVI Travel Portal Will Allow Vaccinated Residents

TheUSVI Travel Portal , launched during the Covid-19 pandemic to minimize the spread of the virus from individuals entering the USVI, will be discontinued on Wednesday, June 1, Governor Albert Bryan confirmed to the Consortium on Tuesday. In addition to ending a requirement that was vexing to many, it was a vital tool in the administration’s fight against Coronavirus. A decision to discontinue the portal aligns with the governor’s comments in early March, when Mr. Bryan lifted the mandatory indoor mask mandate. In his announcement two weeks ago, the governor said that the portal would remain in place until June. Ending the portal requirement further reflects the territory’s new Covid endemic status. It follows predictable patterns and occurs at a baseline level when a disease is endemic in a population, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Bryan indoor mask mandate:

A disease that is endemic is one that persists consistently but spreads at predictable rates that communities can manage.” Seasonal Influenza is an endemic disease in the United States, for example. Malaria is endemic in many parts of the world, with 229 million cases reported in 2019. Dr. Tai Hunte-Ceasar, a specialist in infectious diseases at the Department of Health, said the territory is entering an endemic phase where Covid-19 will continue to be prevalent throughout the territory and Covid levels will rise depending on the level of activity and variants circulating within the community. Our current positivity rate is 15 percent. However, we are seeing fewer cases of illness among hospitalized patients,” Hunte-Ceasar explained. “We began our transition from pandemic to endemic status with the relaxation of Covid-19 restrictions. Let’s work together and keep each other safe by doing our part.” Despite the fact that the administration has announced that Covid has become endemic, the CDC has yet to do the same. According to the agency’s latest update on endemic diseases, if Covid is finally declared endemic, this could result in masks being worn in public transportation, indoor settings, and offices. Covid-19 may be a predictable disease that communities can cope with if good community efforts, high vaccination rates, and improved treatments are put into place, much like they do with seasonal flu.

Usvi Travel Portal To Be Discontinued:

According to reports, Governor Albert Bryan has confirmed with the VI Consortium that the USVI Travel Portal will be discontinued on the 1st of June 2022, which will be effective immediately. A USVI doctor and Department of Health infectious disease specialist, Dr. Tai Hunte-Ceasar, said the territory is entering a state of endemicity, where Covid-19 is continuously prevalent throughout the territory and levels of Covid will rise based on the amount of activity and variants circulating. As of now, 15 percent of our patients are positive. We are seeing a lower rate of sickness among hospitalized patients, however, according to Dr. Hunte-Ceasar. I would like to make the following statement: “With the relaxation of Covid-19 restrictions, we have begun our transition out of the pandemic into endemicity. Let’s continue to work together, keep each other safe, and improve each other’s health.
